About Peter

My name is Peter Hoekstra, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) dedicated to helping men navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence, resilience, and purpose.

I attended Redeemer University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a double minor in Criminal Justice and Physical Education. Afterwards, I attended Yorkville’s Master of Arts in Counselling program, finishing my education in public healthcare. I have done further education in mental-health first aid, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Complex-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD). I love putting extra time into the community, having volunteered with at-risk youth, forensic mental health units, church youth, and currently a crisis responder with Victim Services in the Durham Region.

What draws me to this work is the impact therapy has had on my own life. It has helped me better understand myself, work through challenges, and grow in areas such as faith, relationships, and personal development. Therapy has given me a deep appreciation for the value of having a space where you can feel heard, supported, and encouraged as you take steps toward growth.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy fitness, spending time outdoors, attending church, and quality time with the people I love. These parts of my life have taught me the importance of self-care, creating the rhythm in my life that helps me feel nurtured, grounded, and present.

I welcome individuals from all walks of life and strive to create a space where everyone feels respected, valued, and supported. I believe that every person deserves the opportunity to be heard without judgment and to pursue growth in a way that aligns with their own values, experiences, and goals.
